I've worked for dodge for 10years and my dad for 30. I've owned 10 dodges and my dad has had atleast 30 lol. They all have gone out with about 150,000 miles on them.

Dodges are deff. known for there tranny problems... if you ask me though it seems to be more in the newer ones (anything above 2001).... I owned an 89 dodge 100 with 225,000 miles on it, the thing ran great and never gave me a problem, I just couldn't deal with the 2-wheel drive. I then upgraded to a 95 Dodge Ram 5.2 V8 4 wheel drive, it currently has 209,000 miles on it and the tranny shifts like it was brand new. I don't know if it was rebuilt before I bought it, but that was almost 60,000 miles ago. It seems like I've replaced every part on it other then the motor and tranny, and shes rusting out faster then I can repair it but I'll say it... I love my dodge... shes a good truck... I'd buy another one

I was a dealership tech at the local Dodge dealer for a few years after graduating from UTI. I saw so many tranny failures in all their vehicles. I will say that I had the same experience with my 2002 Explorer. 400 miles out of warranty the trans and rear end went. Ford wouldn't help out at all. When I was at Dodge they would help out their customer even after the warranty was up. I have seen people come in with 50k on the truck and the dealer picked up the parts and only made the owner pay for the labor. Not bad considering they don't have to. I know that every dealership is different though and no matter what brand of vehicle you can find someone with a horror story. Heck we all love Mazda B trucks and how many of us have been left on the side of the road by our little toys. All cars/trucks break no matter new, old, foreign or domestic. Sometimes people get lucky and get one that runs forever and sometimes you get a lemon. That's the joys of owning a vehicle. Sorry your out the $1k though that could have been some cool stuff on your Mazda. -Ed

sorry to hear a bout your tranny but the best thing to do is take your 46re dodge 1/2 ton tranny and put 47 re 3/4 ton diesel parts inside. the diesel trannys have bigger clutches and insted of hard plastic parts that they use in the 46re tranny they have nylon parts that will last a lot longer and not break so fast. i have a 98 dodge ram 1500 360 on 35" tires and geared with 4:88s i have gone though a lot of trannys and sence i did the diesel parts i have not had a problem for 5 years. hope this helps
