Tranny tunnel

Are the transmission tunnels different from 4wd to 2wd? I know the opening is bigger on the 4wd for the 4wd shifter, but are the actual tunnels wider too?

odd question. interested to see an answer tho... and the 4WD shifter is known as a transfer case
