Another thing that helps is if you have a regular user account for the one you use all the time. This will prevent a lot of programs being installed on your computer because to install they have to be ran as admin.
i use avast antivirus, free and updates constantly. has never missed something for me.
avast.com
great tip. i had never thought of that before. i think ill do that when i get home from work. thanks
Yea I need to do that as well...set up the admin thing. I got AVG 8 and AMUST for a registry cleaner....but my friends desktop is hosed I think....I dunno what he got in there but his son has been DL'ing music with NO antivirus....and it directs to its own screen and having a hard time even getting powered on or keeping on for that matter....I got alot of work ahead of me on that one...might just dump it and format it and start all over for that one..
Avg Free, sunbelt kerio firewall free spybot S&D, Malware bytes, Hijack This, one I don't use but reccomend is ccleaner aka crap cleaner
we just got kaspersky internet security 2009. took AVg off and now the computers seem to be running quicker and the kaspersky found like 25 virus's the AVG missed on the lap top. WOW
I hear good things about kaspersky... never tried it myself.
