1985 BMW 325e

Ok.. well I'm lookin at a 1980 BMW 325e to buy it... the body is in great shape, only one dent... but the motor backfired one day and died and has never ran since... I don't think he tried to fix it though. And its been sittin for like a year n a half. I kinda want it. Maybe fix it and have a car to drive finally. I've been wantin somethin cool lookin and somethin that has potential. I like the look of these cars... especially black with some tuner wheels, lowered, exhaust, blacked out... hell ya... I jus dont know how much to offer him. Blue book doesn't go back that far... a 88 in fair condition says $950.. So how much should I offer the guy if I decide to get it??? I was thinkin like 400...

i'd offer 200.. 8 years older, and doesn't run.

i dont think there is such thing of an 80 325e, recheck the yr/model

ok thats jus what he said... i know its a 325e... what do you think about the motor?? What do you think could've happened? He said it jus backfired and it hasn't started since.... And say its like an 85.... what do you think its worth???

an 85 325e metal bumpers, not running not much at all, most go for i models, they rev higher and 88+ with plastic bumpers.. auto or stick?

you can do a bumper swap but requires some work also 5 spd swap if its an auto but also more work. i did my 5spd swap

do reg basic checks, do compression/spark check/fuel.

its a 5sp

so its an e30, if its 325e its a 6 cyclinder. 5spd is good. some like the chrome bumpers, some push them in a little or "tuck them"..

good thing is these cars a great diy car, and u can get hookups on new parts through bmaparts.com (ask for pat, tell'm ur from e30tech, and or tell'm alex lachance from ct sent you to him)

but do a spark check/fuel/compression/leak down. should help a little

325e (2.7 lower reving motor, more torque lower hp) (8:5:1)
325i (2.5 higher reving motor and higher hp) (8:8:1)

mix them together, as i did and a few others, and u get a 2.7i (8:5:1) (high reving and torquey motor)and drop the compression for boost and best of both worlds for hp/tq and ready for boost

But what about the motor?! haha, what do you think could've happened... another guy on here said if it has a plastic timing gear, the backfire could've snapped the teeth and warp the head??? I don't know ANYTHING about BMW's so i have no clue.... and yes its a 6 cyl...
