damn layoffs!

we are having layoffs at work so it's got me all fkd up right now. i don't think that i have anything to worry about seeing as how i am good at what i do and a hard worker but it sucks not knowing for sure and i am not a kiss ass so you never know. damn aviation community! aviation is one of the biggest communities where you never know from 1 day to the next if you are going to have a job. i knew that when i got out of the marine corps and got a job in aviation but decided to do what i love anyways. now it is kind of biting me in the ass. so i have been talking to my wife and i think i am going to become a cop. as much as i dislike local cops austin, tx has the highest paying salary for law enforcement in the state. my mom works for dps and told me that last year they lost over 100 state troopers to the austin police department. i just filled out an application and i will have to wait to see what is going to happen. it is a big pay cut at first but i need job security with a wife, 3 kids and a house to pay for and maintain. so we'll see what happens.

Its def a bold move, but its the right thing to do! You are right in thinking that, you need to be prepared and have some job security!

Man My dad did something similar....drove dump truck and never knew if he would have work as it was very seasonal. Well He has been a cop for about 13 years or more and loving it. You are soo right for thinking about the fam first. Do what ya gotta do...hell I work two jobs and I cleared $50,000 last year with one job. Gotta make sure the kids are spoiled....yet disciplined. Good luck and I am sure with your attitude that I have seen just from the internet chatting...youll be alright.

sounds like a good plan to me man. im 19 fixing to turn 20. im chasing my dream of gettin in a shop doing one of custom work or specialty welding. if i dont have anything that i want by the time im 21 then im goin to go through basic law enforcement training and be a cop or go to trooper school. i love the idea of never knowing what is goin to happen when you wake up. its always something different. i think i would love it.

nice jester. haha. could be. they pay good. i filled out an online application last night but it is a looonnnggg process before you actually get hired on. but after the first year it pays 55,000 and after the second year it goes up to 61,000. it says that the general hiring proces takes about 4-6 months so that is perfect as i believe there will be a big layoff around the august - september time frame. that is when our contract comes to an end. thanks for the motivation guys and i know it will all work out.

so do all us fellow mazda b'ers get a free pass on speeding if this goes through??? hahahaha jus playin dude thats cool but yeah might wanna invest stock in dunkin donuts mmmm donuts *drools* im gonna try for state trooper mostly cuz in 8 years i can be up for texas ranger and how bad ass would that be =o)
