Another guy says he thinks its a neutral safety switch
any chance someone has a wiring diagram and/or some knowledge to help me figure out how to eliminate it?

It looks like a neutral safety switch to me too.
Right click and "view image" for larger version.
Jumper the black/yellow stripe with black/red stripe for carbureted
Jumper the black/yellow stripe with black/green stripe for EFI
It looks like your connector has the EFI colors.... or EGI, per diagram.
