fixing plastic?

Hey guys,
So I was looking for a welding helmet in my dads shed, and I found an auto darkening that needed batterys. so I swapped them out and it works. only downside is, all the plastic is broken. So, i was thinking about it and I have some JB weld, but i'm worried that will eat through whats left of the 10+ year old plastic. So whats the best way to fix it? or would it be cheaper to go and buy a new mask, and use my auto darkening lense? *the shiney white grid is the remnants of the duct tape that was holding it together.

that one is auto darkening, and it works well, just the plastic is busted up.

Sounds like you are making the decision for yourself, i vote throw it away and buy a new one.

it would be easier and smarter to just go out and buy a new one...

haha so I'm thinking i'll attempt to fix it so I can use it tomorrow BUT as soon as princess auto re-opens (closed do to flood damage) I will be going out to get a new mask, but I will look for one that has a solid lens i can replace.

haham nice but I have a working auto darkening lense, all i need is the plastic mask, so I was thinking I'd pick up a cheap large veiw mask with a static lense, and put in my auto darkening.

you can just replace the actual jackson hood for cheap. do you have a local welding supply store? (airgas, praxair etc.)
if you know the dimensions of your lense which i think it's there are standard sizes, you might be able to get a fixed shade hood and swap em out.
$10 for this one

$32 for this jackson

found those at weldingdepot.com FYI

your best bet would be to contact a welding supply shop. i guarantee you have one near you. they'll be able to help you out. you don't need a whole new setup if your lense is working. hell you could fashion yourself a cardboard hood, as long as it holds the lense. now fire resistance of the cardboard hood.... uh...
