its quite surprising how much weight they can tow, duno bout tho 2l carby engines tho, we got a couple duallys wif the 2.6 injected engine, loaded up one of them wif wood, in the tray an wif a trailer, im guessin woulda been close to 500kg (bout a 1000 pounds) or more an it towed alryt, needed a bit more room to stop tho haha, and thats all standard
2.6 fi has 120 hp plus gobs more torque than 2.2 which has a whopping 85 hp.bj
An F350 weighing 6,000lbs can tow up to 11,100.
Also, when I'm towing the tent trailer (2,000lbs) I can still drive it like a sports car, so as long as the trailer is braked it should be doable.
Tho I was wondering if anybody here that has a kia swap ever tried towing 3,500lbs or so.
yeah this was funny thanks tweaks
I still can't believe that that little V-Dub was able to tow a double-axle trailer that far up the hill.

time.
yea i fort that wub b the case, the 2.6 luvs the gas tho, but anyway a trailer that size should hav brakes on it anyway, wub b a bit silly not to
you obviously have a grasp on the situation, considering you gave ford facts... but thats irrelevant to the fact your towing with a MAZDA. did you think about the better brakes, heavier duty axles, transmissions, heavier suspension, and frame materials? aparently you'll still be able to drive it like a sports car huh? well make sure you let me know when you'll be on the road in california so i won't be. your obviously set in trying to do it, so what was the point of asking for opinions?
another thing to think about which you probably already did is heavier trucks meant for towing (not like your sports car mazda tow truck) they have external oil and/or transmission coolers, and a better engine cooling system. remember the vid posted by tweaker? thats because that shit box wasn't meant to tow, and it has a poor cooling system = overheating problem. Now, i'm not saying its impossible to upgrade those items...
My take of this is that even though things are possible, they aren't always good ideas.
Maybe a 6000lb vehicle can tow up to 11,100 on flat surfaces. Or, with a running start, it can handle a 5% grade.
But marketing hype based on closed course / professional drivers is not the real world.
Where I exist drivers are not professional nor is the course closed.
So at 60 miles an hour I occasionally have to deal with freaks darting into my lane and slamming on the brakes, because they are about to overshoot a freeway exit.
Or an emergency maneuver is necessary because of debris in the road dead ahead. Or maybe a deer at night.
Your vehicle has a GVWR. Those are the absolute limits that it is designed to operate within.
That is the total weight . . .truck plus any and all accessories. . .that is considered "safe" within design parameters.
A trailer may be on it's own set of axles. . .but it is a box of rocks on wheels that weighs an amount that can add to your life under good circumstances or really make you sad if overloading ideas recoil unexpectedly.
Wow, that goes for me as well and I don't even live in California.
My old mazda with a fuel injected 5.0L used to tow a double SeaDoo trailer and that is about as big as I would go. The total weight of the trailer would be about 1300-1500 pounds. The motor didn't have trouble towing it, it is the braking, wheelbase and overall size of the truck. And that was with upgraded brakes!
Do you ever see on the highway when transports get a little "speed wobble" from the ruts in the road, improper load displacement, etc and it starts to sway the trailer? Now imagine that with a small truck where there is virtually no weight on the rear end towing a trailer that weighs more than the truck. That along with a host of other problems.
Lets just hope that you get pulled over and inspected if you do.
Yeah, and after the last two days I really don't think it would be worth it to tow, even with the Kia swap.
Me and my parents went camping overnight at a lake 200kms away with them towing a boat and me towing a Fold-down trailer that I approximate that it's weight was about 1,500lbs including the stuff shoved into it. Unfortunately, here in Alberta there are a lot of medium hills, especially on the route I was taking. I was not able to maintain a speed above 80km/h on even 5
