Hi remember me?
Anyways I've decided that using a tent trailer is more hassle than it's worth, so I'm planning on getting an old little hardwalled trailer, like this. Problem is, I's guesstimating that it is about 3,500 pounds fully loaded, and My truck's max capacity is 2,000.
However all replacement hitches are Class II, and i'm planning on upgrading the engine to the Kia FE3 that's almost double the horsepower.
so...
Would My '91 B2200 be able to handle it, maybe even without the Kia engine, or should i just use my truck as a tow-behind?
The weight is not going to be the main issue.Wind resistance is going to be a big factor and your truck will not stop the trailer.Buy an Rv and tow your truck behind it.
I'd say you would be fine with the upgraded engine. just set up a decent set of trailer brakes. but stock motor. i doubt it.
the trailer will weigh more than the truck. that's a tall order for a little mazda
that camper is way to much weight for a mazda b .. with a smaller popup style camper you could probaby tow that i think they weigh n around 1,500 ibs ( + or -) but def ad trailer brake controler .
Since you are asking for opinions. . .
250 pound tongue weight MAX and 1000 pounds trailer weight MAX on a stock Maz with stock bumper.Exceed those at ur own risk.I tow an aluminum trailer with a 550 pound Kawi on it no problem but my truck aint stock ,brakes aint stock, and neither are the bumper supports.BJ
Even with the kia swap. The sportage is only able to tow around 2000 lbs max. They are twice the horse power but suck at towing.
