Okay, so first off, now that I'm buying a new(er) car, I'm finally getting around to playing with my '89 B2200. First, where is a good place to check out engines to swap? I'm interested in putting in a 302. I've also seen articles and kits for 5L V8 swaps too. My question is where would I find the engine? Does changing over to fuel injected make it much harder to fit the engine? I should be able to handle the electrical work for the computer.

My next question, swapping transmissions. I don't care much for the automatic I have already, especially if I drop in as much power as I'm planning. What would be involved with converting to standard, seeing as the gear shift is already in the center?

Then there's my final question which might seem a little on the dumb side. Chop top? Is the windshield/frame strong enough to support itself if I chop the top? The other issue is it's an extended cab, so I'm not sure how I'd have to work it. Any suggestions would be great. I'm not looking to put a top on it, at least not yet, since I can keep it in a garage during the winter. Yay for central Texas and almost never raining in the summer!

Any help with any of these would be great.

well i guess I'll post, seeing as none of the more experienced folks around here have replied yet...

302 ford, find a third generation mustang (scrap yard, parts car ect...). I'd look for one with a standard since thats what you want anyway. Run hydrolic clutch and fab up some motor mounts and you should be good to go. I haven't done it my self but there are quite a few here who have. hopefully they will chime in and correct me

Yeah, there's a couple scrap yards here, and between them I could probably find enough stuff to complete an entire Mustang or 7. One of the nice things about being on a military post. Idiots come back from Iraq, buy Mustangs, then total them because they're idiots who don't know how to drive. I'm wondering if I can take the rear axle off one and put it on the truck though. Same with the drive shaft, that's one more thing I'm not sure where to get, or at least what kind to look for.

you can, but personally i'd just put the mustang yoke (tranny end) on the mazda shaft and use the mazda rear untill it blows.

But why make more work for myself down the line when I can take care of it while I've got everything else ripped apart? Any suggestions on the driveshaft? Hell, if I can use that, I might just tow a whole Mustang out the scrapyard. It'd only be like 500 bucks.

thats your best bet. you can use the mustang rear. but the driveshaft might have to be shortened/lengthend. and the rear end is a slightly different width.
