**I took this post from SSM today, it's a great insight as to why we are losing so many shows and how the new era of minitruckers are destroying a legacy!!!! I know that Jeff and Rob were at the show, maybe they can give some insight as to how it went down? At any rate take a few minutes to read the article...

This is why we are losing so many good shows! Pick up after yourself! Props to Greg Miller for an awesome event! Lets keep this one around! Pick up your trash!

Scrapin The Coast has rolled out of town, but some people feel they have been left to pick up the pieces

dev i can understand your frustration IF this was due to mini truckers making or causing this problem.... as you read the comments they all unstand that it wasn't us that made the mess or anything... i do believe that they are going to let the show come back....

Scrapin the Coast was an awesome show! I can't wait to be back there next year!

I've never really like that term Mini Trucker I guess it means different things to different people. I don't consider myself one I'm just a guy that loves anything custom and has a deep love for the hobby.

Anyway about the trash. I hate it also. In our booth Saturday and Sunday it was covered with trash all over left behind by people that hung out to get out of the sun and left when they wanted to leave. Even though I didn't know these people I felt responsible for our area so of course I picked up after them both days. Should I have to? Of course not. So just with my area I could only imagine what it was like on the strip.

In the years I've gone to shows I disagree about trash being responsible for loosing good shows though I'm sure for a show promoter it definitely is an annoyance.

I know I hung out with the EC (Explicit Concepts) crew over at the motel 6 on Friday night....They made every prospecting member and other members for that matter pick up trash at teh end of the night. No matter how drunk they were. They made sure they got trash bags from the hotel, trash cans, and encouraged others to do the same...truly nice to see. Especially from a bunch of trailer trash. LOL (you would understand if you met EC....they pride them selves on the trailer...and are good peeps) I think it would be a nice kind of push for the larger clubs that like to meet at these show to start setting these standards of respect for others and their property. If large clubs such as RA, ST <>, No Regrets, Acro....all set these wheels in motion it could catch on to the small people. As for the locals....good luck there sometimes they are what they are just look at where they come from when you visit these towns...their front yards look like that. LOL. I am personally making a promise that Mazdafest will leave the site cleaner than when we arrive!

Slamsession Supershow has a contest to see who can pick up the most trash. There are 3 trash containers. 300 goes to first, 200 to second and 100 to first. Show grounds are clean at the end of the weekend.

It is good to hear that some of the clubs are doing things to promote this hobby/sport/ lifestyle / whateeveryoucallit. Yep. I know that Sunset has had the "cleanest camp" award at RESO for years. Fleetwood won the last 4 years running...RESO R.I.P.

The truth is there are several reasons show are dying all around us.
1)Trash has always been a huge problem, but mainly for the promoter. They need to project some time and money for every show for clean-up. It doesn't matter what type of auto event you have people are messy and leave their garbage. Some promoters don't take this into consideration and after putting on a show, or three day event are so tired that trash is the last thing they want to deal with. I haven't been a part of show promotion for over ten years, but I spent as much as $1000 on clean up. This is 1990's money.

2) That leads me to my second point. Money. It costs a lot to put on a show.
A) Venue rents are sometimes thousands of dollars.
B) Insurance " (1000 per million in 1998)
C) Promotions (flyers, ads, etc) " (1000)
D) trophies (500?)
E) DJs / sound systems (300-500)
F) Security (1000 min)
G) Portible toilets ($70 each or approx $700)
H) Clean-up (1000)
There is probably something I left out, but if you just add B+C+D+E+F+G+H = $5700 +venue costs. If you expect 500 entrants and charge $20 you will make about $10000. A $4300 profit is unheard of . More realistic is you will barely break even and you will lose your ass if someone gets hurt or destroys something in the venue.

3) Scarcity of venues allowing "minitruckers". In SoCal at least, we have been banned from several places making it hard to find a nice location on a budget.

4) People like myself , who have put on successful events in the past are not willing to put their reputation and more importantly, their money, on the line for people who will let them down. I have even been told that an event was "too expensive" priced at $20. We did have a good turn out (240 cars)and raised $3000 for the Ronald McDonald House (a children's charity joined to CHOC hospital), but the only way we made money was with the raffel. The risk has made it rough for promoters.

Am I embarrased to be a "minitrucker"...no, but I do think we need to set proper example for the younger members of the scene. If we allow them to terrorize the public, trash venues and generally give us a black eye, then we deserve to suffer the consequences. The "drag and destroy" mentality must be tempered with reason. Don't get me wrong, no one gets as fired up as me to see someone dragging their truck. I love to see it and love to do it. I just think we need to take into consideration the general population doesn't "get it".

I know that at TexMex the Severed Ties crew did a bad ass job keeping the grounds clean. Every morning, and night they went to each camp and gave out garbage bags and told the camps to clean up. There was one camp who graffitied on a picnic table and they were told to repaint it with paint they had to buy. They were stood over while they painted it, then were told forcefully but politely to get the hell out and not show their faces again. This September when we head to Az for the Nats, i'm sure David and i will get a first hand look at the problems of trash. As staff, we cant even leave to come home till the grounds are clean. Its just a matter of respect to ourselves, the grounds, and everyone else around you. Besides, if you get a pic of your truck in a mag, who wants to see it with a lot of trash lying around it? Keep your truck looking good by keeping the area around your truck looking good

NO RESPECT

The small town that I live in stopped us from cruising because of trash. Well that and people fighting and laying drag. We used to have a great place to cruise too. My dad cruised when he was a kid in our town, but my generation had no respect. The cops hade to shut us down. Thats been more than 10yrs ago and we still get looks when we stop in one place to long

I totally feel you on this, my hometown Cleveland, TN used to have a strip for everyone to cruise in which my dad too was part of in his younger years, but like you said our generation kinda put a stop to that with all their "immaturity". But like was said before we need to bring this generation of minitruckers up the right way or we are slowly and painfully watch this die out too.
