I have a Makita grinder that was orignally my dads an its been thru hell, and needing a switch badly. This 4" grinder has two wrenches to fasten the grinding wheel onto it(thats how old school this is). I was looking at a couple DeWalts today at Murdochs that range form $70 to $90 that have the lock button on the gear head, and you thread on the grinding stone or flap wheel. My question is what kind of grinders are you peeps using? And what should a person look for when hunting for a new grinder?
I am using the medium sized Dewalt model. Very nice quality, 3-4yrs old and still kicking. Only thing I dislike is not enough rubber on handle. The new Dewalt gives you more cushion.
i have a couple ,but when i use them i use a makita one the most ,been through tons of stuff and still kicking
I got a couple of 1 yr old Craftsman Industrial series grinders and the 4 screws that hold the head on keep slowly backing out and end up throwing grease everywhere. Now the bushings went out on one of them and it started throwing sparks where the shaft comes out of the head. VERY dissapointed but they are craftsman and we just keep taking them back.
I would really like to know what you all are useing as well. Just stay away from the Craftsman Industrial models!!!
brand new makita and older dewalt, both of them kick major ass! stay away from the cheapo's. i bought one off ebay because it came with a chop saw like stand, i used it once and it shit out on me, there junk!
a grinder is one of those things you definetely do not want to skip out on. u may have to pay a little more for one buy youll be way happier and save money in the long run.

makita here...been thru hell, has chopped up everything from metal to cutting pavement, all sorts of wheels from standard 4 grinder plates to diamond saws...still kikcks along.
I have a ryobi too...and I be damn if that thing still aint kicking ass!
Milwaukee or Makita ftmfw!!!!!!
I have a Hitachi that my moms got me several years back. It is very rugged and has done well for the little I have used it. But I baby my power tools as well. I guess that is part of being poor. I have a black and decker Sawzall too...it was like the $120 one on an open box sale....$35!!!
I hear ya on this one! HAD a Craftsman Industrial grinder. One of the bolts backed out and ended up taking out 3 of the cooling fins on the motor before I got it apart, and bolted back together. After that is was way out of balance and just basically self destructed. After I tossed it in the dumpster I got a new Milwaukee and have been happy ever since.
And what Dev said ^ - FTMFW!!!
