Hello, folks,I'm new here. I've had 2 mazda trucks in the past a 94 B4000 and an 87 2600??
I apologize if this is abrupt. I have a few questions about the trans in the b2000 trucks 2wd. I'm looking at an 84 and 86. I plan to use this trans in a project vehicle I'm putting together 63 alpine sunbeam(think MGB). I believe they are both 5 speeds. My questions are would these make decent car trans? Does anybody know the ratios? Are they OD??? They appear to be a 2 piece design. My plan is to "make my bellhousing" fit this transmission. I do not want to use a T5 just to big, I looked for a toyota t50 but they are not easily found anymore(pre 84). I would appreciate any info or advice on these trannys.
Also, If anybody is interested they are both complete and in a local junk yard I'm in pa 18707 and they are fairly rust free?? I can get pics.
thanks

depends on what you plan doing with the car itself. you goin fast or anything? i mean these are fairly low geared trannys that tend to tach up pretty quickkly and definetely not mean for speed. tend to not like highspeeds on the interstate either.

I'm not looking for a speed machine. Just a daily driver. I think with my current trans I'll be tach-ing 3800+ at 65. Also, it does not have a synchronized first gear. I suppose I'm really just looking for a OD trans. The engine only puts out about 86hp..

my b2200 runs about 3000 at 70 in 5th gear alot better than my mx6 which is like 4500 in 5th gear

what size tire are you running? I can figure out the final gear.

The ratios for the 5 speed in my B2200 (which might have the same trans) are:
1st= 3.622:1
2nd= 2.186:1
3rd= 1.419:1
4th= 1:1
5th= .858:1
My truck runs at 3500rpm when i'm going 120km or 75Mi, with a 3.909:1 diff and 26" diameter tires (stock size). Yor will depend on your tire size and diff.
Check our this site, where you can enter driveline info and find speed
You should probably consider a tranny from a MX-5 Miata or an RX-7, they would be better suited as far as ratios go.
