Well i figured I jump back in here an write my book just like jmzcustomz (Jeff)...LOL J/K
I to have spent a couple years trying to figure out how to get one. The brokers that i talked to didn't want anything to do with what i wanted. Which is just the cab itself w/all the glass not to worried about the interior. Anyway if you get just the cab it shouldn't be as hard to get past customs. One of my fellow members, he and his dad import minis and he told me that if you bring something over that is complete (an its not a model that was avaiable in the states)it will be hard to get past customs as opposed to just the cab(cause its concered parts not something you will drive). I was also told by one of the brokers that actully called me back that if it had any type of light on it that was not dot approved you could not bring it in. Well with all that said i got bummed. Until I came across another member that lives in Austraila. Long story short he came over here to a show an we got to talking. When he got back home he started looking for me. Come to find out his friend imports and exports parts to and from their. Then he came across another buddy who deals with junk cars and trucks. So low and behold I have the people over their to find the truck and box an ship. It just would take a while cause they are helping out a fellow minitrucker and not making a lot of money off the deal. With all that said thats as far as I have gotten, with money being tight cause of the dam economy and my wife being the only income. I have stopped trying to make it happen until I have a miracle or win the lottery but the problem with winning the lottery you have to buy a ticket first....LOL Sorry for the long post but i figureed I'd share my story to.

Everyone keeps talking about getting one from New Zealand or Austrailia. They were available a lot closer to home. They are all over central and south america. You can even find them in Mexico!I saw 6 or 7 of them while in the Bahamas. It would be more cost effective to get one from these places.

Yeah it probably would but you need to find someone that can do it. Most of the brokers that i called and left messages with their secetaries said they only deal with over seas stuff. The only problem with Mexico would be the drug war thats going on(thats what I was told just the other day when I called my buddy in AZ to see if he wanted to go down their and look for me, he wants one too). I wouldn't want to get caught up in that. An no offense to anyone but I'm not going into Mexico!! So if we all chip in you'll go back to Bahamas for us right...LOL

^^^^^^^He's right about the "Drug thing" going on in Mexico, I live on the border and I rarely go, because $h*t over there is crazy at the moment.
EX: There was this dude on the news recently- called a "Expert at kidnapping cases and stuff" (from here the US.) ,so he goes to Mex. to teach other "agents" over there to fight against these cases and teach on how to avoid being kidnapped and stuff. Well he wasn't there that long and when he came out of a restaurant he got kidnapped himself.
Ironic huh?

Mexico is not that bad. Go down and find one one of the locals to drive it over the border into the us and pick it up from him no customs.Hard part will be finding one in decent enough shape.

Most of the imported vehicles you see driving on the roads are typically over 20 years old, which do not require them to meet current safety and emissions standards.
We have tons of RHD original Minis running around here, and some guy near me has a sick 80s Toyota Landcruiser that's RHD. Not to mention all the RHD Hondas roaming around. A friend of mine also had a 2nd gen RX7 that was RHD.
Jeff's red tape issue occurs when the cab he has bought is then placed on a frame here and the truck gets built. Registration and VIN numbers conflict and he needs to jump through hoops to get the truck registered as a custom, hot rod or kit car most likely. If he is lucky, and his state honors 20+ yr old classic vehicle exemptions for saftey and emission regulations will help him get through some of the difficult parts of registering an out of country 'cab'. Along the topic of the kit car and home made thing, a custom VIN number may need to be issued by his local DMV or federal government acknowledging the truck has been custom built.
For insurance purposes he cannot simply swap the vin from his current truck to the Aussie cab, as that would be fraud and should anything happen if he was to get the vehicle insured, he would be denied coverage because the existing custom truck that has just been built conflicts with the previous records of the VIN that is being used. He may not even be able to insure it unless he goes through the whole home built/custom vehicle deal.
This is why it's so expensive for what he wants to do. He doesn't want to buy a truck as is from Australia, have it shipped here and then register and drive it. He wants to make 1 truck out of several trucks, and the main component, being the cab, never existed in the states. There isn't even a 4 door B series option on any insurance form in the Canada or US. If he gets it insured somehow and is in an accident and needs replacement rear doors or a cab, how or where is the insurance company going to get such parts?

You save significantly on shipping, but you still go through the same import hassles. Plus they aren't RHD unless they come from OZ/NZ or the Bahamas.

NC4Life....please contact me I would like to talk to you about this in depth. I know for a FACT that if we can get enough to fill a small container the cost is a LOT less. Plus if you have a hook up I am not afraid of driving to the carolina's...LOL
The problem with the Mexico, south american, bahama trucks....they are not RHD. Very few countries are RHD.
