well im running a trick 350 in my mazda with a turbo 350 behinde it. ill give most the specs. bored .60over, high compression pistons, balanced crank, pete jackson noisy gear drive, electric water pump, hei distributor, port and pollished heads, roller rockers, rv pulling cam, edelbrock intake manifold, not sure on the carb yet but it will have a spacer and a trick aircleaner. custom forward headers to shorty mufflers to dumping infront of the motor. i think thats about all of it but im not a motor guy, thats all i can remember my motor builder telling me. now my question is im going to run a 1 peice (spelling?) driveshaft. before i get my driveshaft built will my stock rear end handle the power, do i need to change gears or do i need to get a whole new rear end totaly? i was going to go to a fs chevy like 03/04 model for the disc brakes. but if i dont have to i can adapt disc's on this rear end. thanks in advance for the help.

not sure about a 350 but i know some one who has a 302 5.0 built to 500 horse and he still has the stock rearend in a b22. he has not had probs but i soon will have a houseing for a 9 inch thats been shortend 6 inches for a mini. so thats my 2 cents
thanks man. i guess ill just keep the stock one in.

500 ponies on a stock b22k rear & it's still together, that's amazing....but hey, they are about the same as the early model rx-7 rears, and I've heard of v8's getting put into those cars with @ 500 hp & holding together, so what do I know.....
By the sounds of how your motor is going to be josh, I'd say you'll get 400 easy out of it, if not more. I'd be slightly apprehensive with using the stock rear (especially since it's open diff) with that much power...., to beaf up the stock rear, you can run a carrier out of an 84-85 rx-7 gsl-se, same bolt pattern & spline count, 4.07 gear ratio, cluch type lsd....but to get disc on the trucks axle will take a little work, some say the later model chevy rotors will fit if bored out slightly & use montecarlo calipers. I personally swapped in the whole rx-7 rear end, it took a little work, but it is lighter, has the disc brakes, and lsd, the down side is the axle shafts are 4-lug, not 6, and they aren't big enought to be drilled out to a 6-lug pattern, so I had mine drilled to a 5-lug pattern & had my front hubs done to match...the upside to this is if you don't like the 4.07 ratio, you can always swap out the stock 3.91 ring & pinion from the truck to the rx-7 carrier & keep the lsd...I think you might also be able to get a 3.58 from one of the older cars too (81-83 323 or 626 or sumthin like that)
chevy axle, but is prolly gonna be slightly wider than you'd want to run, but would work nicely behind the v8....you could also go with a yota rear from a v6 and keep the 6 lug pattern, they have lsd, and you can get a disc brake kit for them from downey offroad...
another option is a ford 8.8, one of the other guys on here has a 302 in his mazda & is running a 8.8 out of a stang, and he said it is @ the same size as the oem truck axle or slightly narrower, which is better when tuckin wheel ; )
hope that helps ya out....
thanks for all the info man. im thinking of just getting one out of a fs chevy. narrowing the rear end isnt a big deal i can do that and have moser make me some new axels. i narrowed the stock one a total of 6" just so it would tuck the 24's. thanks again man. me and the motor builder are thinking it should be around 450hp on premium. its built to spray if i ever decided to do that for kicks.
josh
no prob, glad to help!
another option that I didn't mention, would be to run an independant rear setup from one of the rx's, or the like, but you prolly don't want to go that route since you were talkin 'bout using a solid rear...
i thought of a irs. but i dont think ill be able to get the lift i need to acheive to untuck. heres a refrence picture of how far the back wheels tuck into the bed.
josh
i know thats not what you want but that shit would be sick.
sorry bro, the pic didn't show up on my end, I see those huge wheels, I'd say that you
might could run a vette rear with some custom upper & lower arms to get the amount of
lift you want...like papa said above, it'd be sick!
