those direct bolt into the pre 85's.. but with some time and $$ you could, but i think an fe3 with a turbo would be better

I had a nonturbo 2.3 in one of my old mazdas. It was bitchin. Mine had a BorgWarner T5 out of a mustang, Eventhough the motor mounts didn't bolt up they still lined up. With a little fab work it worked great. The shifter even came through the stock hole. Ialso used the entire wire harness and gauge cluster from the Mustang. My Mazda even had a Ford key.

I sent the guy a question, hes in the same city as me. I've heard of these being a direct swap but I havent seen anything on them.

If I can get a pic of a motor mount I will probably get it.

Only thing I'm worried about is the computer and junk like that.

guy had a long bed 87 with a 2.3 Merkur motor and tranny and turbo on ebay a couple of years back.same engine and tranny.truck ran 14s in the quarter-it was bad Ass with a capital A.Lol.He had to go to solid motor mounts cause the truck had so much torque it kept breaking the stock ones.also about the same time, another dude had a sb 90 model with a 2.5 liter Volvo 4 banger and tranny. It looked really good in the engine bay.Has anyone seen or heard of that truck or another Volvo swap?bj

Reading this thread has once again convinced me to spend more cash by building another 2.3 like my race motor. I had pondered this swap in the past but, didn't think it would work just by the difference in transmission size. I figured sure the shifter would be way under the dash, given the really long tranny in a Mazda.
