so i decided to do a V8 swap in my mazda. I buy a Oldsmobile rocket 350 and start getting ready to install and this thing is being a bitch! ive had to cut the hell out of the firewall, going to have to relocate the brake booster, find a way to mount the gas pedal cause i had to remove that part of the firewall. anyways i guess what im askin is....is the olds motor wider than a regular chevy 350? ive saw a few threads on here and it doesnt look like anyone else has had near the problems i have had trying to while getting it to fit

most all GM products since late 60s early 70s have used the same short block for 350 cars.upper ends have sometimes been different especially heads,,but not the short block.bj

thats what i thought! it looks like its atleast 8" wider than a chevy 350 but i dont have one here to compare it to to make sure. thi intake looks HUGE! and the heads look COMPLETELY different than those ive saw on a chevy 350.

i beklieve they made a BB and a SB version of the rocket. 350 and 455 i think, mine doesnt look like a BB , the block looks similar in size to a SBC but the whole top half looks to be way wider and it's causing me some issues.

there were a lot of rocket engines produced from the 40's on... what year is yours?
any pics? come on, just post them already!!!!
the rocket 350 was built from 1968-80
"1968-1974 350s were painted gold; 1975-1976 350s were metallic blue like the 455; 1977-1980 models were painted GM Corporate Blue
The early Oldsmobile 350s made from 1968 thru 1976 are more desirable engines with heavy castings, beefier crankshafts, and better flowing heads. The later 1977 thru 1980 350 had the "lightweight" castings, including a thinner block with large "windows" in the main bearing bulkheads, crack-prone head castings which were actually manufactured by Pontiac castings are marked PMD." - wikipedia

mine came from a 79 cutlass 4door, not sure if its the factoy motor that came in that car tho. it was painted gloss black and aluminum intake already when i got it. it's deff. a olds motor tho cause the wide ass intake and oil filler neck is in the front of the block
