ORS 815.245 Violation of minimum clearance requirements for passenger vehicles. Class B traffic violation

A vehicle may not have less clearance from the surface of a level roadway than the clearance between the roadway and the lowest portion of any rim of any wheel in contact with the roadway.

The reason for the law
Lowered vehicles may get hung up on uneven road surfaces or may not be able to enter or leave driveways or traverse railway crossings. This may cause crashes or tie up traffic waiting to remove the lowered vehicle from an obstruction.

when i first got my truck lowered & started driving it i got pulled about 4 times in a week...& none of the times they had a good reason to pull me....just bogus stuff like "you dont have stock tailights"

The best thing I can say would be “don’t do stupid stuff to attract extra attention from the police in what ever state you live in.

After 20 years 4 different states I have only gotten 3 tickets. Be nice to the cop and most cops will be cool as long as you follow the basic rules of the road. There are at least 10 things on my roadster that are illegal but for the most part they leave me alone.

I used to get pulled over with kermit all the time. Obviously it stood out like a sore thumb,but I drove it like grandma and never did anything stupid. I'd just get pulled to check my registration and stuff,but they'd always give me a hard time and question me on stuff. It got really old,really fast.

I was always paranoid when I was driving cuz I can't afford tickets and have my insurance go up.

got a bunch of tickets ever since i started driving mainly because every vehicle had something radical done to it.

16- first vehicle. got numerous tickets for my system. it was a 95 s-10 and had 5 15's in the bed. 3 batterys and about 4,000 watts. yea. it was a loud mo fo.

17- second vehicle. license plate to low on a static dropped truck. window tint. screens visable while driving. system. had 3 12's. winsheild tinted. taillights smoked. no visable side markers.

18- 3rd truck. 05 d-max 4x4. headlights to high off the ground. didnt meet emisions in texas (d.o.t got me for hauling a trailer and checked them.) had no cat and no muffler on my d-max. plus stacked programers, intake, egr blocker. system in that 2. had 2 12 jl w7's and screens again.

20- 4th truck. 05 silverado bagged. window tint. altering suspension while driving. system again. just 2 12 diamond audios. screens again. license plate to low. tinted tail lights. and tinted front windsheild.

21- my show truck just got done. 2001 s-10 that went to sema. window tint. non reflective taillights. no corner markers. system again. 2 12 eclipse's. think that was it.

now im 22 and have my dually. window tint. frame to low. and screen.

all were fix it tickets just about. judge dismissed just about all but the window tint and noise polution tickets.


drive an altered truck/car. get hassled. plain and simple.

ive got speeding tickets and what not. but i think thats bout all the altered tickets ive gotten.

nice little collection i got going on. im sure the mazda will get me a few more.

Knock on wood but no then again my truck as only be lowered for a month or so. But my tint has been for about a year.

I was just curious because ever since I lowered my truck I have been getting hella looks from the police haven't been pulled over yet (knock on wood) thankfully but been get mad attention!!! That's why I'm contemplating raising it up more make it a little less low. I know it's gotta be because of the lowered stance because when ti was stock I never got looked at and I have no system...

I've gotten pulled over for DRAGGIN', told him that my switchbox fell. I had all the necessary paperwork and he was cool about it and gave me a warning.
