lowrider vs minitrucker

i cant stand when someone calls my truck a lowrider. i almost dumped my gf because she would say it just to get on my nerve. i dont really understand why people think that minitruckin originated from the lowrider scene. i can see that minis kind of evolved similar to lowriders in the 80s. back when minis first became popular in the 70s they didnt look anything like lowriders and the styling that most people do today dont look anything like lowriders.

Now this topic puts me in a real state of confusion....

I built a Lowrider mini-truck that has won numorus Best of Show awards at Lowrider magazine shows (so I must have done something right)
And I have also built a pretty decent Mini-Truck for my daughter which many think will also win a few awards (which is assuming most of you are pretty good at judging a mini-truck)
And I am about as white as it gets.....
I could go on about the differences between the two from a visual standpoint, but I truly believe the 2 cultures are more closely related than most think.
Should be an intersting topic to follow. Maybe in the end I will actually figure out what I am.

im just curious to what lowriders looked like in the 70s. i just cant imagine what lowriders looked like before if the first mini trucks in the 70s were started because of lowriders.

Wow, i always thought that there was confusion about the two on this site! Immortal, you truck is amazing, but I do not consider it a "mini truck", it's a low rider through and through, no doubt about it. Toddluck, the fact that you consider your mini truck a low rider is suprising.

If you need some clarifiaction on what I am trying to say, go pick up a low rider magazine and compair it to the likes of mini truckin or sport truck. Do you see any simularities??? The only thing that I can see is that the vehicles are low to the ground. Other than that, you are talking about two totaly different worlds.

I respect the low rider scene. I think what they do is great. But I drive a MINI TRUCK, not a low rider. It bothers me when people call my truck a low rider. It is not a low rider, It is a mini truck.

Every once in a while I will get asked what the difference is. My favorite answer: "On average, mini trucks are lower than low riders"

Oh yeah, and to bring race into is just ignorant. Yes, the low rider community has a bigger Spanish following, but to summarize both communities in these terms is ill-mannered, and speaks poorly of yourself and the community that you “represent

LowRider is a style. MiniTruck is the vehicle.


If you got a jacked up toyota...you still have a MiniTruck...just not a LowRider.

I dont see a "lowrider" as being a car with a flaked paintjob, and spokes. I see that as PART of the LowRider style. If ur Low...ur low. Plain as that. I like when people tell me i drive a low rider. I take pride in that. Its what I meant to do, drive a LOW RIDER. Just happens that my low rider may be a MINI TRUCK.


The magazines got it ALL twisted. They put a label on a style, and it became a scene.

The MiniTruckin mag is good, not only smacked, bagged, or whatever makes them low, but they do have lifted, jacked, and bodied there as well. Just not many are building big minis anymore.

the reason i say my truck is a lowrider is because its lowwered...its not the low rider style of mini truck but fact is its lowered

and as far as the race issue goes i wont even waste my time with that cause its a stupid argument
