got screwed on my tranny!

my tranny went out on me about a month ago. and i wasn't going to do anything because i plan on going to iraq in the near future. but i got tired of not driving it so i pulled the spare out of my parts truck. now, as far as i know it was good. the guy i bought it from said it ran great until he cracked his head.

so i pulled it out of my parts truck and gave it to a guy i work with. his brother works at a tranny shop and a guy he works with does transmission repair on the side at home. so i was like cool, get a better deal on the side, right? nope! before i ever sent it to him i asked how much it would cost just to pull it apart and inspect it and he never gave me a price, he just said let me look at it. so he pulls my tranny apart and inspects everything and calls me to say it is all good. nothing wrong with the guts. but he does want to go ahead and replace my seals for me. i was like hell yeah, sounds good. so he needed all my info on the truck, yr, make, and model. well the next day (yesterday) i get a call. he tells me 300 bucks. i about shit! wtf! i said let me think about it (knowing hell no!). then i called him back and said that i am not going to worry about it right now and to go ahead and send it back to me. so he never changed my seals or anything and now i am going to get a tranny casing and a box full of parts. so it looks like i am going to learn how to put a tranny together. haha.

but the funny thing is that i called around and the same company that he works for but at a different location told me they would pull it apart, inspect it, and put it back together for free. but they wouldn't give me a quote on replacing the seals without looking at it first. which i thought was no big deal. so i called another place and asked him if i brought him my tranny and seals, and all i wanted him to do was replace the seals how much would it cost me? he said 100 bucks. so why the hell is this clown trying to charge me 300 bucks??? the seals are only 25 bucks for both.

so i will be pulling my tranny out and using it as a guide. hahaha

that sucks man. thats why i refuse to take anything to anybody to do work. ive heard about too many scandaliss people. though ive never pulled a tranny apart before. good luck

yeah, i've always heard that std trannies are easy. i just didn't want to mess with it. haha. but, atleast i know all my parts are good. hahaha.

shit thats stupid as hell... in my line of work (plumbing) there are a lot of companies that are shitting on people when it comes time to bill for parts and labor.... i did a job the other day for a lady that already had a plumber come in and tell her it was going to cost $375 per toilet to repair her 3 toilets.... so i figure her up a price on the parts and my labor.... $360 and now all 3 toilets are working great whats wrong with people now a days damn.... should smack that fool in the face with some gear grease

that's crazy. people charge so much for little stuff nowadays. Don't worry, that tranny is very easy to put back together. I redid mine not too long ago, but I swaped the guts with a 94 miata one for better gear ratios. and I was intimidated at first, but it only took about 2 hours for my first time ever tearing into one. you should be fine putting everything back together. if the bellhousing is off as well, make sure you lube up the bearing that sits on it and slowly tighten the 8 bolts from the back until it sits in there properly, then remove them and while holding the shifter leg, between the gear arms (that's what i call it) slide your tail housing in then re intall your bolts. You gotta use gray permatex sealer (just a thin layer) on the bellhousing and tailhousing before putting it back together. I have lots of pictures on a link if you need.
