has anybody made one or got any ide of how to or what to use i hate to spend 250 bucks on one

You could get a linear actuator and make a few brackets and be good to go. Wouldnt need a very big one just enough stroke to move the license plate up and down. I just googled some quick and they would be around 90 bucks.

Use an air cylinder, they're not just for honda's. Make a snappy quick tag!
A 6" cylinder will run about $30 shipped. Design what you want and they make it for you. A milling place I use for PC parts orders from this place.

a buddy of mine used an actuator, and 2 drawer slides. works great!

How about a power window motor and two drawer slides? I think I am going with a small air cylinder, tied to my rear bags. When up its down and when down its up.

I am plannin on a power antenna motor myself...CHEAP but should be more than enough for the purpose at hand. Just have to be sure the sliding mechanism is very smooth...these things are not the strongest in the world. I had not considered a power window motor....that is a much better idea, LOL

power window would be best... but a "flat glass" power window is what i'm planning on using when i do mine over the summer......
the power antenna would work to drop it but i'm not sure it could pull it back up and outta the way..... not enough ass in them.....
