I have a turbo and manifold off my old 91 mx6 turbo 2.2. My friend wants to put it on his 2200. Is it possible to turbo a carbed 2200 and would we need to have an electric pump to help the manual pump? Just wondering wondering my friends tired of having a turd for a truck with no power.
Yes, you can turbo a carbed vehicle, although it is a lot of work to get it running correctly. You will have to have the carbed worked over to be able to handle the pressure that the turbo is forcing air through it. You would need a electric fuel pump to supply fuel. There is a lot of things you would need to do for it to work. Do a search on google or something for carb'd turbo setup and you will find all the info you'll need.
im not sure on the details on how you have to modify the carb but the carb can also be placed before the turbo. i pretty sure its along the lines of making the secondaries open up once the turbo spools.
^^^^^^ thats how they do oldskool vw's carb before turbo holley and edelbrock both make 2 barrel carbs for turbos check that out
Carb has to be rebuilt to withstand the pressures. RotaryShack can redo them.
Well, I think what we are gonna do instead is find another old mx6 or probe turbo and go that route unless we can find an old rx7 turbo. Thanks for all the input guys thats just way to much work to do rather do w whole motor swap thats a cake job compared to dealing with carbs I hate em.
i have done this to b2200 but you should put a weber on it first. i did it cuz i heardweber can withstand 30 psiof pressure but other than that i had to do was tune thecarb a little but it spun the tires into 3rd gear all the time
