This might be a dumb question. But I was wondering how illegal it is to roll around with no bed for awhile? I would still hook up my tails and put the plate back there. What do you guys think. I'm in IL if anyone from there knows that would be cool too.

if you were in the hills of tennessee, you probably wouldn't even draw an eye of attention, but in ill, it'll be different! deff hook up the tail lights & turn signals, tag, and they might say something about not having a bumper too.....just depends on how much of an arse they want to be...all in all, if your just gonna have it off a couple days you'll probably be alright, any longer than that, and they'll probably say something!

dang i was worried about the whole bumper situation. Cops prob would be pretty rough around here. I guess I will see. lol maybe i could make it for awhile.

just give them a legit excuse like your truck was in a hit and run accident and your waiting for a new bed to come into the dealer or something like that and you still need your truck due to it being your daily, if they ask why you dident leave the old bed on tell them that it was rubbing against the tire
im sure you could get away with it in every state/province there are different laws about it if they arent FIRM about having a bed then you can get away with it even if that means making up an excuse

yeah that is something to say. I think worst case even if you got a real dick cop it wouldn't hold in court at all. Thanks man.

Most times on a truck or cargo van, the rear bumper is not an issue as it is not considered a passenger vehicle and there is no passenger compartment in the back. Mazda's straight from the factory had the rear bumper as optional.
The issues they will hound you on will be license plate light and some sort of either fender or mud flap. Look at big rigs, they drive around with no trailer all the time and they are basically a truck with no bed.

that is true. any ideas for fender or mud flaps? i know i could zip tie the lights and license plate up and add some sort of plate light.

i've seen guys use a 2x4 laid across the frame (and secured somehow) with some big truck mudflaps bolted to it. I'd say just have a closer look at a big rig to determine the height needed for the flaps. your only other issue will be securing your gas filler. Make sure to use the good UV treated zip ties for the lights and such. it really sucks to drag your tailights by the harness (don't ask)

It feels weird, when you look behind you, and there is nothing there, freaked me out a couple of times
