Hey, im looking to purchase or build some sort of tonneau cover for my long box bed. Ive looked at them at our local lordco but they want 500 bucks(CAD) for a rounded fiberglass one and thats just not gonna cut it. So i was thinking about building one, and was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what materials to use or if anyone knew where i could buy something like the one in this pic below for a bit cheaper then one of thoes rounded fiberflass ones. Thanks

Dude I built my own for my shortbed but if you build it u can make it any size. For a longbed id make it hinge in the middle so only the back half opened or the front half. I used 3/4 inch tongue-n-groove plywood, the stuff u use for house floors, and built a 2x2 box frame to attach it to. Then covered it in marine grade vinyl with a layer of halfinch foam under it. I like mine b/c i can stand on it and it dont move. Im 6'7" tall and 350lbs and if it dont move with me on it then you know its strong. P.S. it makes a good dance floor for the ladies at the car shows.

thats a great idea and ive considered it only problem bro is if you got someone who doesnt like you and they feel like being a dick and box cutter and that cover are gonna make real good friends then what do you got, a big ole cut right down ur cover

...well if its painted they could just key it/scratch it all up.
i never really thought of doing one with just wood and then covering it. probably be cheap, maybe not look as nice, but def serve the purpose of keeping it covered.
