Hey everyone,
I've posted a few times but I thought I should properly introduce myself. My name's Justin and I have always wanted to cram a large motor in a small truck, however I'm 18 and I am still in school so my budget is rather small. I started out wanting to squeeze a 350 into an S10. This changed when my friend overheated his B2200 on the way to my house. Since it already had a bearing knock, and he didn't like the truck - He's a diesel full size 4x4 fan - he put the throttle to the mat and made it to my house. 20-30 kilometers with steam billowing from under the hood. by the time he reached my house the truck could only do 80 km/h top speed. Needless to say the rings are fried, and there is no compression. When I asked him what he was going to do with the truck he said he was just going to scrap it and asked if I wanted it. The truck passed mechanical fitness in January and There is very little rust. Of course I said yes. Now I'm researching for a motor swap that I can do on a budget.
I have access to a full shop with hoists on weekends, but the vehicle must be gone come Monday mornings. So I want to have everything planned out so I can bring it in and start on a Friday night, and have it as close to completed as possible and out Sunday night. I have a few options for engines, the 350 Chevy and trans out of a 1980 Buick Skyhawk that was given to me, an f150 parts truck with a 351 small block, or if i can talk him down or save enough money, a 302 third generation mustang parts car, with the full drive train in tact and running.
So now you have an idea of who I am and why I joined. I appologize for the long introduction but I felt it was a somewhat interesting story. Also, depending on the motor I use I have a 1980 Buick Skyhawk that I am being told I have to part with ( the downside to living with ones mother). All the glass is still perfect, the front clip is apart, motor and tranny are out, and much bodywork is needed, but there is alot of potential, and there aren't many of these cars around. most were used as drag cars since they're so light. I would love to see this car finished but I don't have the money to invest in it. The B2200 is a much more realistic project for me since all it needs is a motor. Again, sorry for ranting, I'll end it here so I don't go on for another paragraph...
