Hello,
New here, and to Mazda B trucks. Been lurking here for a couple weeks, and thought it time to join.
I've been looking for a little truck for awhile now, and found this one on craigslist with a blown head gasket for $250.
Thought I could just throw a head gasket in, but got it home to find that the head was warped also.
Started pricing machine work -vs- new head, and went with a new casting with new valves/springs for $310 shipped.
Truck was seriously neglected. Had mold growing on most interior surfaces, carpet was beyond nasty, and plastic was severly nicotine stained from about chest high up.
New head installed, along with new water pump and thermostat to be safe. Felpro gasket.
Runs out good, but I'm having some occasional idle issues that I think are due to the factory carb, or one of the 1,000,000 emmision things attatched to it.
Been cleaning the interior now. Carpet didn't come out clean even after Resolve carpet cleaner/pressure washer treatment. Nicotine stains are coming out nicely though. On the picture below the door edge molding color shows what the interior looked like in comparison to the cleaned interior rear piler panel.
Anyway, I'm about $850 into it now with the tow home/new head/water pump/thermostat/carpet kit (not in yet)/good used tires (not on yet).
All stock:

Premium sound system w/Dolby tape deck. Ya thats right...Dolby. On top of that it's got the factory 4" speakers that were apparently so good they didn't require foam surrounds on the cones!
P.S.- Yes the canopy is going away.
Welcome to the bscene! The best thing you can do about the carb is throw it in the trash. Get a weber and never look back!
