I'm getting my truck setup to tow my 36' gooseneck race car trailer and thought I would run a few things by you guys to get your opinions????

2000 Chev,crew cab,long box,7.4,auto

Front
3" spindles,RE 8's,Bell Tech shocks

Rear
2 link off stock spring hangers, panhard,Bell Tech c-notch,RE 8's,shock extensions Monroe "reflex" shocks

Control
2 Viair 400's,2- 6 gallon and 2 3 gallon tanks,Dakota Digital gauges

Wheels/Tires
4-22" shaved classics,4-265/35/22 tires,2-225/75/16 inner rears 10 ply

I'm thinking of boxing the rear frame section so I have some strength for my goosneck hitch. Anything else that would neesd to be done to make a SAFE and RELIABLE hauler? We already beefed up the 2 link bars and they are WAY overkill and next on the list is to gusset the top bag mounts on the rear also.

I could see the link bars folding just ahead of the bag mounts.

The link bars are 2"x3" 1/4" wall tubing and are gusseted now with 1/4" plate . I would think the front leaf spring mounts they attach to would break first? Would you guys build somthing similar to a Air Ride Tech "Air Bar" with the bags behind the axle?

Ive always been told that if youre going to use a setup to tow, then mount the bags "over the axle" (or as close to it as possible)

Ive also been told that you can do the bags on the links and still tow, but I dont believe they had that big of a trailer in mind....

ALSO, Ive heard its REALLY bad to be using 2 different size tires in the back when towing that much weight. The inner tire will absorb weight and put uneven pressure on the 2 wheels... Just do 22s all the way around...

yea i would worry abou the link bars bending with that much weight on them. you might be ok but with a goose neck your gunna have alot of weight centered over that axle putting alot of stress on those bars.. i have a two link set up on my other dually that i had and i pulled a single car hauler a couple of times and it was ok but was alittle nervous about it.

Do you guys have any pictures of what I should change too? Anyone run Air Ride Tech's Airbar? As for the 22"/16" tire problems should I just stick with 16" wheels for towing?

you should be okay with the teens and the ten ply's in the back that is what I run and I pull campers and alot of 8-9 thousand pounders but you really need to go with a setup like the air bar (parallel 4 bar w/ panhard bar) from Ride Right you can get a real beefy one from SD.com and put the bags over the axle (pref.) or behind (as close as poss.) excessive is right I would be worried as well about the bars bending probable not at first but could be a problem over time.
