Help squash what is probably a dumb idea 10 lug rotors.

I have had this stupid idea rolling around in my head for a while(lonely place).

I was thinking of using either 10 lug ford f550 or like a bus spindle and rotor so I wouldn't have to use adapters. I figure I would get bigger brakes out of the deal and save on the adapters. My question is...

A) What uses the proper bolt pattern and hub centric so I can use 24's from Lock

B) Got a picture of such animal, I'm curious to see how big something like this would be to see if it is even feasible?


Like I said this is just an idea and the specifics are far from hashed out. I need some input from some of you guys and where to start looking for feasible donors.

Or tell me it's the dumbest thing you've ever heard and to stop posting when I'm off my meds.

my question is arnt the bigger trucks a kingpin design unlike our balljoint and just thinking off the top of my head you might have to spread the a arms out to keep your geometry with the larger spindles

it could be cool if you can make it work but I'm seeing a lot of size issues

I'm pretty sure they are king pin, yes. Figured I'd have inserts made to accept ball joints. Most king pin design spindles are pretty short so I figured that might make up for them coming from a larger vehicle.

That's my plan when I get some time. Forgot about the drum brake part. The axle I'm thinking of using for the rear donor parts is out of an old bus and it has regular old hydraulic disc brakes, you would think the front would be similar.

Bolt pattern is one thing I'm concerned with. I suppose though if I'm not using adapters it wouldn't matter just get the wheels that match the hubs. Stud piloted or hub piloted.

I just figure adapters are $800 and a big brake kit is $assloads, so if I could do it I'm sure I would be under that.

i would think the cost to run such parts and availablitly as compared to our 1 ton stuff would be huge

just remember the idea of putting an airbag on a truck to slam it probably sounded dumb at one time and now everyone is doing it. I'm encouraging you 100%

I just thought of something I wonder if you can dial the brake pressure in so your not putting yourself through windsheild when you tap the brakes

the brakes are desinged for almost twice the weight and rolling mass. it might be like putting 1T brakes on a smartcar (tap the brakes and the car does summersalts)

Just remember to get the lug pattern pre-superduty too. I think they made some F-450s and up with 10 lug but they are different 10 lug than chevy, I think. Like the 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern for chevy and the superduty fords had 8 on 170mm. There was a post on Pirate 4x4 with pics of one of these axles the one guy had for sale. I can try and see if the pics still work and post them up here.
