In a jam/exhaust removal

Hey guys! I'm in the process of removing the stock exhaust manifold and will be bolting on a header (all bolts came out with no effort=good). I am wondering what to do with the hard line running back to the intake. My plan is to get another Holley and go emissions free with electronic ignition. I'm not concerned with mileage as this truck is a part time project for my enjoyment, not a daily driver.

Leave off that piping.

I made a pair tube block off plate from a Simpson Strong Tie wire shield from Home Depot (56 cents).

I later removed those bolts and used the original mount assembly which also mounts to the engine.
Here's the engine after photos. I used 14mm x 1.5mm wheel lugs lug nuts from O'Reillys ($4.99 for four) to plug the pair tube outlets coming out the upper manifold heat shield.

Autozone has most of the gaskets, if you know the part numbers. I used Never-Seize lubricant on most of the threads;


Pre-converter gasket (top of front converter) - FEL-PRO Part number is 60534
(Special order Autozone $3.99)
Bottom gasket (3-hole) Fel-Pro 60286 (stocked at Autozone $3.49)

Exhaust pipes, second converter, muffler, etc. (need three or four) – Fel-Pro 60620 (2 stocked at Autozone, $2.99)

Thanks, Cusser. However, I cannot view the images. I was pretty sure that line needed to go, just not sure where to block it off.

Yeah, I posted that when it was MazdaTruckin without the "g", but that site got hacked or something so all early photo links were lost when they changed to MazdaTrucking.com The block off I made was simply a rectangular piece of steel (that was the cheapest I saw that day) and I drilled two holes in that so the original hardware and gaskets could be used.

Some have cut off that double tube a few inches up and crimped or welded them shut, and then used that as the block off.

Thanks, customkev89! It's reverse setup from what I have (81 B2000) but I've got a similar layout. I have removed the line off exhaust manifold (that sucker was on tight!) and will block off for now. Now to get my hands on a saws-all and take that exhaust off! What kind of exhaust are you running? I'm looking into a cherry bomb or other glass pack.

honestly its a stock replacement type (quiet muffler) nothing special really,.. im going to bag it soon and all i was worried about was raising the exhaust above the frame to keep it from dragging.... i did install a small hotrod catalytic converter on it also, to keep that dang EPA! off my back lol but if you want more of that rumble sounding exhaust cherry bomb or glass packs should do just that
