quick 4 link question

does it make a difference if i have all the tabs on the bottom of the axle

I'm pretty sure if all bars go to the bottom of the axle nothing is stoping axle from twisting under load

makes sence what if u were to take the outter link bars and put them on top of the axle and the inners under it

You can probably get away with running all your links under the axle "IF" you run a massive wheel tire combo, so that you can maintain proper spacing between your upper and lower link ends. You woul also need some pretty beefy link tabs, because it will likely see bigger torque loads than a traditional setup would. Possible? Yes, if done properly. Advisable? Not really, unless you have a really good reason for it.

Its possible to run the lowers inside (Im assuming you mean in a triangulated set-up). Its called a Satchell Link.

no you cant run all the bars under the axle.

unless its mounted like a leaf spring with perches to keep the axle from twisting. not really sure what dmk is talking about with massive wheel/tire combo, it doesnt matter what size your wheels/tires.


just look around all the pics on here (SSM) and in the local magazines to see what you can and cant do. there has to be thousands of 2,3,4,5,and 6 link pics on this website..

The guys that say you cant run them under the axle is wrong, DMK is correct. Since the tabs are welded to the axle, and the bars are spaced apart from each other, they stop the axle from twisting. He mentioned large wheels because the tabs will need to be of a great length to get enough spacing to keep the axle rigid.

I personally would not run them like that. If you dont have enough room above the axle, then run the upper bars on the front of the axle, and the lowers underneath. This will keep the tabs a shorter length and put less stress on the tabs. Here is a premade tab that shows exactly what Im talking about:

To me, when the OP said "if I have all the tabs on the bottom", I didn't get the feeling that he was talking about the brackets that Dave posted. If he had those brackets he really wouldn't have to ask that question, it sounds like he is talking about a bunch of axle tabs.
