Agreed, I went through that in the late
80's back when I lived in MO. I felt like
my truck had an "Infrared Red X" on it.

Like mr900f says, the law just dictates the maxium distance the mud flap can be above the ground. So make you an itty bitty flap and set it at that height, if they want to give you tickets, carry a copy of the code to court and a nice clear picture of a ruler showing the length from mudflap to ground, and tell them to suck it.

It's funny that the law says 8" but with a 4" tolerance. So you could have mudflaps up to 12" off the ground...how stupid.

I will tell you that if I wasn't careful I was always snatching mudflaps off the wrecker. They were a decent height unloaded, but pick up something heavy while backed up to a curb (snatching, so you have to be quick) when you load the bed down, the mudflap would catch on the curb and rip right out when I pulled away.

I slapped mudflaps onto the 3500HD even before it had a bed, so I wasn't raining rocks on people behind me, and so I wouldn't get tickets. Had to be careful though because with no bed, it could easily sling something right into my rear window. Was also bad about mudding up the mirrors when I'd leave the scrapyard.

Ill leave them on for now, and i like the idea of just triming some old flaps where they dont hang down that far.

I really need to start a build thread for this truck, ive been doing a lot of little things to make it look better.

Hey richard, how do i take my bed off? i was wanting to get up under there to do the c-notch for the future flip.

Turn some bolts...unplug some wires.

Get under the truck!

Ive been running around with one mud flap on and havent been stopped yet(knock on wood) i put them back on backed up to a curb and ripped it off, damnit, i need to get some that stretch or something.lol

About the clearance lights, i have all of them except on the tailgate, mines all smooth.

I gotta do something about that damn gas mileage, its better than my old vette, but still. ive limited driving only to work and back home, and when we need to haul something.

I guess the best thing would be to get a little p.o.s. gas saver.lol

Just get a line of fire type light in between the tailgate and roll pan. Under $100 fix?

The later dually trucks (I think the switch came around 95 or 96) use a three marker light strip that goes in the gap between the tailgate and bumper. Should be very, very easy to find as it's a generic item many places carry. They're also ridiculously cheap on eBay.

That pic of the HD I posted, showing the mud flaps, you can kind of see the three marker strip I had on the rear crossmember for a little while.
