Is it reverse threaded? Thanks.
I dont remember which way it is threaded but you can put a breaker bar on it and bump the starter to get it off. -Ryan
Its not reverse threaded! Ive done that starter bump to get mine loose!
What do you mean bump the starter exactly? This is mt first time completely redoing an engine, its on the engine stand and all stripped down, starter removed, but I cant get that bolt off.
By bump the starter I put a breaker bar & socket on the bolt with the edge of the bar on the cross member. Tap the starter & it will break that bolt loose. Its a PITA to do it on a stand. Another way to do it, might damage the piston is put a screwdriver in the spark plug hole to keep the motor from turning when you try to break that bolt loose.
I'm not sure if it will work better, but if you have only tried hand tools, try an impact to break it loose!
Ok got a friend that has a big impact that he said will do the job! We shall see...

If it's on a stand it's hard. Do not stick anything down the spark plug hole to jam the engine. You can usually get more torque with a breaker bar than an impact. Put two of the bolts into the crank on the back and put a pry bar across them and jam it up against the stand to keep the engine from turning. Like so: Green is pry bar, red is crank bolts. Then use a breaker bar with socket up front like normal and crank on it. Make sure you put the bolts into the crank a good bit. If you barelly catch the threads you may rip them out. -Ryan
Impact didn't work, so I am going to try Ryan's plan. Though I did the exact same thing and completely bent the screwdriver around the bolt I will try it with a pry bar like you suggested. So we shall see... Thanks all!
On a friends 22re i had to use a breaker bar with a pipe over it and hit it with a sledge hammer. No joke.
