02 taco bumper on 99 taco to wide

why is the bumper i got for a 02 taco to wide for the 99 core i have on my truck ?

i didnt think the 02 was wider then the old one but i guess the front end is about 2" or so ...i have a 97 bumper from my king cab yota and it fits the 99 front...so i guess im going to see if bpa will swap it from chrome to the painted bumper and im going to narrow the bumper and valance and get a new valance for the 97 bumper and if i dont get it finished b4 spring fling then ill run the 97 bumper ...i just like the look of the 02 bumper ....anyone know on the 02 how much taller the 4wd val is then the 2wd one?
