Question about early 90's 4runner

I live in colorado and our winters are not to bad but 2wd mini trucks suck on ice. If i get a 4wd 4 runner slam it on bags and what not can i keep the 4wd in tact? Will 4wd work if i bag and slam it hard.
 
Sorry i havent seen if 4wd has to be disconnected for any reason.
 
Weird question.

The front of  a 4x4 3 runner will not let it lay they suck.  And drivin a 2wd truck in colo is not to bad just get a good set of snow tires and some sand bags for the bed
