Ignition problem???

I have a 96 dodge ram 1500.. When I get in it and turn the key sometimes it will fire first time... sometimes i have to push the brake than it will fire sometimes it takes me 5 to 10 turns of the key to get it started.. When it wont start it just makes a click noise..Im lost...
 
The previous owner did install a trailer brake.... Any help???
