Blue tooth on laptop

I took the battery out of my laptop the other day and under the cover it mentions stuff about bluetooth. How do I find out if my comp has a bluetooth adapter built in? I have one that goes in a usb port but doesn't work that great. Everytime I use it I also get a connection notice in the toolbar just like when I connect to a wireless network but I am unable to figure out how to use it or anything. Anyone know about bluetooth stuff? I have a nokia camera phone and I like to update my addy book and transfer images and mp3's.

HP Pavilion dv 8000, I just got it this summer.
