got a traditional bodydrop on my '96 sonoma. will this motor i'm building fit under a stock hood? lol. appears to be tall. may not even fit under a small cowl hood. if it won't, i'll just say fuck it and get the tallest parts i can and make it over the roof. lol

but what parts should i be using for hood clearance? i thought all the parts i had said low-rise, and use for low clearance applications. any thoughts or ideas?

Make your own motor mounts and drop the motor as far down as possible. I did that and fit a carb'ed 302 in my Mazda with 1.5" sticking through the hood, and thats with a 4.5" bd or so.

I would change the air cleaner for starters . Holley makes a Dual Side Cleaner that is the shortest on the market costs alot but will help you gain about 1-2 inches hood clearance . After that just lower the mounts as much as possible without having to section the Oil Pan

You can also change that Intake Manifold to a smaller one to gain 3/4 or so

ya i want that dual side air cleaner. thing is badass!! i talked with edelbrock before i ordered the performer intake manifold and they said this would be the shortest one that would work since i have the 87-95 vortech heads.

For that Air Cleaner if your not willing to spend the 250.00 for it . There is a company that makes it for the Holley Co with no Name on it . Saves you 60-70 on price . Also Weinand did atleast have the lowest Intake on the market for both Vortec and Old style chevy head .

I have found that the moroso oil pans for the sunbirds and monzas work quite well cause the front of the pan back to the square for the oil pump is quite shallow since the only area you need oil is around the pick up. the last one i used were with fabbed mounts and it put the bottom of my pan flush with the bottom of the crossmember but still had an inch or more between the crossmember with stock height mounts. I also made one from a regular pan that looked exactly like the monza pan but was an inch shorter in the back with a shortened pick up. something like that would give you alot of clearance, if you want let me know and i will take some pics of them cause i still got two hanging on the wall at the shop.
