HID Kits

I have been contiplating putting an aftermarket HID kit in a few of my trucks, especially my 07 chevy HD. I know on oem the housing are specifically made for HID for the best light output as the HID Bulb reflects the light differently than a halogen bulb. The oem housings have different reflector setups in them to remedy this. But I have been seeing alot of these kits on the road lately and they seem to be working good, at least from my point of view. Anybody running any of the aftermarket kits? Any of them to stay away from? Autoloc has a kit for around 150 but seems really cheap, so I am curious if they are as good as oem. I have been driving my blazer with envoy lights in it again and just love them in the snow. Any advice would be appreciated.

Honestly, the HID kits should be used with projector style housings inorder to get the full benifit from them. It is best to use a projector that is from a car that has this type of lighting from the factory and convert it into your housing if possible. They can be used without the projectors but you will not see the cut off points and focused beam pattern that is seen with projectors. It will definately be brighter and you will see a major difference, but on coming traffic will also and they will not be as happy about your upgraded lights as you are! I'm definately doing a HID upgrade to my truck when I switch my front end to the same style that's on your truck. By the way, what year and make bumper is that on the front of your truck and does it bolt on with out any modifications? I think that looks 100% better than the plastic piece of crap bumper cover IMO!

Recent thread I been reading on this topic as well. I think I am going to swap to the Denali/Escalade front end eventually as well...

Here is the thread I been reading...

Mine is a 99 sheet metal, everything was from a denali except the grill and bumper as the gmc parts were cheaper than the caddy ones. The bumper is like an 01 gmc sierra 1/2 ton.

As far as the hid's, not all oem hid's use projector housings, envoys for one don't but the reflectors inside are designed differently. I know using an oem housing is the best way but would look rediculous trying to fab a projector into a different headlight such as my caddy lights, end up looking like euro lights from a ricer. Not too concerned about putting them in my dually anyways as I never drive it. I really want them in my 07 4x4 Diesel HD for winter driving. Really more curious on which kits last and are better built than others.

stay away from a company called hid world complete shit they burn out quick and fade to a yellowish color. they said lifetime waranty but after replacing twice and having no lights for like a month each time i said to hell with that.

i got the ones from fbi 8000k on now and they seem pretty good.
the only thing that sucks is if you have to flash your brights(if you get the brights also) they arent bright because they arent warmed up.they are bright as shit though. some times i turn them on every once in a while just so they are ready.

my low beams are pretty bright but they are tilted down to where the top line of the lights is about mirror height to oncoming traffic.

on a side note i cant drive a vehicle with normal lights now because they suck ass. and most of my friends feel the same way now as well.

hope this helps.
