96 Tacoma Speedometer not working

The speedometer in my 1996 Tacoma is not working. The check engine light came on after it stopped working. I had it checked and it said that the Speed senso was bad. Would a broken speedo cable cause this or is it just the sensor gone bad? There is a weird clicking noise coming from the dash cluster area while im driving so i'm not sure what to think. Any help is appreciated

it sounds like its just the sensor...
but- clicking noise sounds like cable behind dash. if its not hooked to the sensor it will kick on the light,

that truck should have a cable.... and judging by the clicking i'd say broken cable... take the cluster out and make sure nothing is broke on it, and then get a new cable if its broken...

Just got done fixin the speedo cable. lots of BS just to change that fucker! NO MORE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!! THANKS PHUCKERS!
