I was driving as a lease operator for a company out of Taylor, Michigan and they got audited by the DOT. They got rid of about 40 drivers all at once.
The only thing they found on me was not logging my fuel purchases when i was off duty. I logged them ALL when i was on duty, but since the state of Michigan requires drivers who live in their truck to carry a separate insurance to cover them while not under load (about $170/month), i didn't figure i needed to log them because i was on my time, not on duty.
They said that fueling the truck automatically puts you on duty, so they let me go.
Right now i'm waiting to hear about a job driving a cargo van over the road for an Ohio company. Wish me luck!

Good luck man, tough being a driver out there right now. This economy situation seems worse to me (for the transportation industry) than the previous huge fuel crunch a few years ago.

yea my company is a bitch about logging fueling on line 4. (on duty not driving). they catch you more then 2 times doing that and you get the boot. the dot wants you to log every minute of your life! and it sucks because most major fueling stops we use, pilot, TA and flying j don't put times on there recepts that the drivers get because everyone uses them to forge there logs. Good luck with the ohio company. Cya on the road maybe haha

The main problem i had with it was that it put you on duty automatically and started your 14 hour clock. If i got called for a run in the evening and had fueled that morning, i couldnt take a run of any length because i had been "on the clock" all day long. Stupid rule. Next time i will just get CommCheks for fuel every time so i dont have to worry about it.

now that you all have whored up my post

I know few cdl guys around here are out of work, along with owner opert. trucks setting

here were I live we have 4 large gravel pits that supply most of the seattle tacoma area because there is no open pits in those 3 countys so all the trucks heading to the seattle tacoma are get on the freeway at the same place so from 5:30am to about 8am that area was a traffic night mare. so I try to advoid it but yesterday when I was getting on the freeway there you'd almost think it was a sunday morning I cought all 3 traffic lights and never got on my brakes untill I made the turn for the on ramp

also I've been told by two different burlington northern rail employee's in differnt parts of the country both with 20yrs + in are thinking they may be getting laied off

so I don't care what your hauling if we're not transporting goods we're not buy'n goods and that means we're not spending money so we're still in a resetion (thats not how you spell that but you get the point. we're out of work)

No way dude, the economy is picking up, the news said so.

And just last year we weren't in a recession either, the news kept saying so too.

Everything's comin' up roses...!
