Ok i keep hearing about it but how do you shorten it? Does anyone have pics or some heads up on how to do it?
Find a Cab/Chassis rearend. From what I have heard, thats easier than messing w/ having the rearend narrowed.
You would need inner and outer bearing pucks, A nice ground solid bar to slide through the pucks. You cut off the ends shorten them however much you want put the ends back on the nice ground bar that runs through the pucks, index the ends and burn them back on. Its not hard but you have to have the right equipment for it. Axles will run you in the $340 range. And your going to want to replace your bearing while your in there.
Might be easier to just find a C&C rearend and make it work.
So whats the deal with the cab chassis rearend is it shorter or something?
Yeah, it will set the back wheels in enough to tuck in the fenders...
Ok nice how about the performance of it is it the same? Also is there a certain one i should get?
The performance would be the same, it's just a narrower axle. The pumpkin is offset on the c&c rears though, if I'm not mistaken. I know some of the bread/box trucks had them, I think you will want to look into older vehicles for a donor.
Normal C&C rearends are around 44-46" from plate to plate and your stock is somewhere around 52-56" depending on year and options.
So what year should i look for and also do i just swap out the whole rearend or just certain parts?
