my fuel pump on my 88 shitbox went. how hard is it to replace? ive done fuel pumps before and HATED them, cause the damn gm engineers could have at leaste left a few feet of slack on the fuel lines to be NICE. is the dually just like all the rest? (im hoping not)

no different than anything else

Just like every other GM vehicle. Sometimes it is easier for us to loosen all the bed bolts and prop/slide the bed backwards.

i was thinkin about that, but all the air lines and tons of wires run through the bed for the switches and batterys in the back. ive had the bed off once, but i forget where all the bolts are, i know there is only 8 of em, but i cant remember how easy it was to get them.

think it would be possible to simply unbolt the bed and tilt it up high enough with say a floor jack or something high enough to get to the fuel pump with out the bed sliding sideways? now this has got me thinkin....

Yeah we tilt them sideways also. We usually use a 2x4 to prop the bed up.

Or another method, but it's best to reserve it for beds that are already fubared like this gooseneck newbie victim:

I've lifted them off the frame straight up with ratchet straps hanging from garage rafters, on short beds I run a pair of straps in an X from the stake pockets and pick them straight up with an engine hoist from the rear, etc. (Long bed, most engine hoists don't have enough reach to make it to the center from the rear)

BTW spend the extra few bucks and get the Delphi pump, or hit the dealer and get the real deal AC-Delco pump. The Delphi should run you about $60-$75. It's worth it. Cheaper fuel pumps aren't worth the cardboard box they come in.

OH almost forgot about this one, I think I originally saw it on FSC and it cracked me the hell up,

Tahoes are fun to do. I did one on an 87 Blazer. Just filled up 32 gallons, went off-road and hit a big rock on the tank to knock the pump off the sending unit. Dropping a tank with that much gas is lots of fun.

good lord! luckly i think i have less then 1/4th a tank. on a positive side note, national auto has a sending unit / plumbing unit in stock just in case i break the connections like i did on my blazer. thought when i had the bed off it looked pretty mint. i swear if i ever have the bed off another truck again i'm going to replace the fuel pump. 60 bucks would be worth it!
