Mazda RHD (right hand drive) Conversion Questions?

Whats goin on everyone,

I'm thinkin about doin the Right hand drive conversion on my 91 Maz Cab Plus B2600i. My first question is, can I just buy the RHD Steering box and RHD Idler arm from someone in Japan or Australia and bolt it up with out any modifactions? And if i can do this, does anyoen know if they have Power Steering RHD boxes there? The dash, firewall and wiring and what not I'm not too worried about. I just had the frame smoothed and painted and I am not willing to cut it up to do this modification. Thanks for any input.

You can just get the RHD stuff and bolt it up, the stock frame has mounting points on both sides. And they should have the power steering since they were an option here. Talk to Steve at Cando Specialties, he had a few parts a couple of weeks ago.

you could also just modify your center link and swap the steering box to the other frame rail, you will have to move the alternator slightly too.

(This is what im pretty much in the middle of with mine)

i also am doin the right hand drive in my mazda. i need help with gettin the steering box and some of the steering linkages also.

i seen a steering box on ebay.au.com and emailed the guy but he would not ship it to me.... pissed me off...

any help would be great

i got a buddy in aussi. i talk to him quite a bit. im geting the dash, and grill, and its guna cost me $432 USD to get it shipped, plus the $110 for dash and the $55 for grill. people will not pay that much for just a mazda dash unless you absolutly eat and breath MAZDA like ME!!!

Its another one of those gray areas, like air bags. But yes, technically it is. There are imported RHD cars here that are perfectly legal, so just tell them its stock. Never tell them you made it that way.

I know that here in Ontario its legal, you can register it with no problems. They say you're supposed to have RHD on the bumper or trunk in a contrasting colour. And no I didn't spell colour wrong.

THERE is your big problem. Shipping cost will be insane, if you can even find someone willing to do it.

See? and thats his buddy sending the parts.

Most everything comes overseas in containers, either buy enough stuff to fill one up or pay outrageous prices to get in on someone elses.

yeah I was supposed to get a dash from Australia... after all was said and done i'd have been into it for like $800 i think... I said forget that, and im just gonna build my own.
