Best way to cut rockers off...

I have a cutoff wheel setup for my grinder that uses an 1/8 cutoff wheel, will this work? Or will it get the metal too hot? If so, what is the best way? I know it sounds kinda ghetto, but how bout a jig saw with a metal blade?

Grinder will work fine. I ran tape before so I had a guide and you can visualize before you cut. All depends what you feel more comfy with, so you can keep it straight.
Good luck

i think your gonna have trouble with a jigsaw, your better off using a swazall(recipricating saw!),i used a sawzall on my rear inner fenderwells and finished it off with the grinder(i was using the grinder but it was taking to long and i was worried about the paint also)

How about you just drive about 80MPH and let it down. It would be str8! LoL

Actually a cut off wheel would not only be NOT ghetto, it would be BEST.

A sawsall would more than likely fuck up your straight rocker; making it harder to work with. Plus it would leave a much rougher edge.

Like he said, use tape or a straight edge with a marker or something to make sure it's straight.

My mazda had the factory undercoating hardline on the rockers, thats what i went by and it worked perfect.

Cool, much appreciated info. One more question, Should I use flat bar to replace it, if so, what size?

Yeah that would probably work out fine, I would go with 16 guage or 14 personally.

Yeah i would, but i like to be able to scrape 'n drag if i want...

I'd do 1/4" to 3/8" flat bar

Thats just me

To reinforce we used 1/4 plate to make sure it was plenty strong. Granted my truck will never drag but it better safe than sorry.
Just remember to put some tape on the cut line and look at it for a bit make sure it is exactly as you want it.
Good luck and lets see some pics.
