I think the wheel bead should mirror the tire bead with a shoulder on the bottom and on top of the cut, but what do i know.....

Not every wheel has the "saftey" bead. It is only on one side of normal custom wheels i.e. 20s 22s 24s and so on, if on them at all. It is not even on a semi wheel (22.5 or 24.5) at all from Alcoa or Accuride due to the stiffness of the sidewalls on the tires.
The only purpose it serves is to keep the tire from rolling inwards when flat and 9 times out of 10 they roll anyways due to the weight on the flattened tire.

Lockone is right! on any .5" wheel they have a 45 degree lip and not a 90 deg. thats why we have to get them milled down. You could stretch the 22" tire onto the 22.5" but without the lip there not safe. that "safety bead" is merely for flats...Not for tires that are aired up..

Good thing custom trucks never get flats then.
I wondered though with the explosion of wheel sizes if they were still making different beads for every size.
