Another hydroboost question, but.....

Got an 86 CC and it has an old tekonsha brake controller in it. This thing has a line going from the back of it to the master cylinder and the only wire that is connected is the power wire. Would it be ok to replace the old controller with a newer one without the brake line involved or is it there for a specific reason?
