Ok so I have a Stepside bed from a 97 dime. I am going to be welding in a grant cali combo, and grant steel step shavers. Where do I weld the step shavers in order to keep the body line???? ayone have pics, or just let me know how to do it. thanks.

i say fit the combo and just put a FEW tacks then fit the step shavers and you should have a good idea of where they need to be. thats just my opinion tho

Well i know how to fit them on there, I just dont know where to weld. if i weld in the crease between the bed and the shaver then I will fill in the body line. I want to weld it all in and retain the body line.

if you weld with the bed off cant you get in from behind

Think about it.. you dont want the welds to show on the front.. so where does that leave you?

Tack it up from behind.. there will be a little lip there, either tack it on that or fold them over and tack it..

I can get pictures if you like, its not really that hard man..

if you have to tack a strip about 2" wide on the backside ,lay your shaver ,line it up and tack it to the new strip

In theory that sounds good, but all it does is leave a place for moisture to collect and cause rust.

Also, never just "tack" pieces in. All filler panels and skins should be fully welded and ground before using any filler. Unless you want the seam to show up later.

I am working on an s10 step side bed right now. There is a lip on the bed, where the bodyline should start, line it up there, and tack the panels on. then grind it, the bodyline shouldnt dissappear, i went to the junkyard and cut the bottom off of a fleetside bed, and im modifying that and welding those in.
