I agree, sounds like a wheel bearing. I just had to do one on my dakota, there not bad to do, but not cheap either

Lose rotor or castle nut would affect the lug nuts. the whole rotor and wheel assembly would come loose if that was it. his wheel must not be seating on the hub or he has faulty nuts and or studs.

when you tightened it up really tight and then backed it off, you either broke the bearing or the race, and now its rattling around in there. Seen it on an old dodge fullsize, and a long time ago on my old Ross BMX bicycle the first time I changed the crank. Learned it then, still know it, dont overtighten bearings.

Just as another thought my Durango has had ball joints put in it twice in 80k they suck.
Pick the truck up and put it on a jack stand and take the wheel one hand at the top and one at the bottom and push and pull this will tell if there is a bearing or ball joint failure if it moves basicly at all there is something wrong get a second person to watch were the movement is coming from. hope this helps a little

i'm gonna go against the flow here and offer another possibility... did you take the control arms off? I had mine off recently, and apparently didn't tighten the lowers enough, and didn't realize that the rear pivot was actually slotted for some camber adjustment... it would slide in and out and made what i'd consider a popping sound too.... just a thought and not sure if that'd even apply to your control arms... but worth lookin at!

yeah i took everything out...Arms, spindle, etc......my driver side is doing fine...i got everything tight again....see i had kept the rotor and spindle together...then when i got it painted...they took it all apart....so im thinking my problem is either that nut, or the wheel bearings.....Im gonna take off and check everything this afternoon......Thank u all for the helpful input....i appreciate it...
