OK, now which wire goes where? positive, negative, and signal to guage?
This is my fuel cell with a GM style sending unit.

one is a bolt (biggest in center), one is a screw (top), and the 3rd on the bottom is a male spade adapter.

I am assuming the bolt is the hot wire from battery, the screw is ground, and the spade is the signal wire. Is this right?

the bolt is the signal wire and the other one is the ground that should be all you need

no fuel gauge runs off ohms, the gauge itself has power. the center is to hte gauge, prong is gauge ground(in factory harness) screw is ground for the tank/gauge.

i needed to know about the sender, not the guage. i think i got it. bolt is power, screw is ground, and spade is signal to guage. then on the guage it only has a signal and a ground.

james that picture is of the sending unit on the cell, not the guage.

their is no power the thing in the picture is the sending unit it runs ohms back to the gauge which is the power(OHMS)the nut is the wire from the gauge and the others are ground wires you dont need a power wire there is not a place for it if you hook up a power wire you might have a chance in burning the sending unit and hopefully the tank is empty or it could spark and youll have one expensive firework show

i just dont understand how it could work without power.. i know it uses ohms, but, my factory sending unit has power wires. a hot ground and a signal. I need to find a gm wiring diagram i guess.

The power from the gauge goes to the tank and reads how much amperage is drawn. The more gas you have the more voltage it will allow and the gauge will read higher. It's just a resistance meter.
