i work with overhead cranes everyday and that may be good enough for some people but i would never do it. true, the straps have a huge load rating, and it differs depending on how you sling it. but one small sharp edge and the weight will shear it right off. i've seen quite a few of them go. chains i'd feel safe with. also i've seen lots of straps go when weld berries land on them as well. when people leave them on the floor and weld over them, they usually go in the garbage. the ones we use are yellow and they have a red stitch inside, when that is visable its time to take it out of service.

somoeone has to care for them, you quit giving your 30 cents a day.

You could support that truck front end with a jump rope, its not like it weighs 50 tons or has razor sharp edges. There is credence to everything that has been said, dont use a damaged strap, dont use them out of their service parameters, but that strap in that application is such a large overkil that people have to resprt to worst case scenarios to explain why its a bad idea. I'm not disagreeing with or supporting any one thing that has been said, but holy crap there is something called adrawin award that says stupid people are going to kill themselves through natural selection, I have seen worse ideas on trucks than using a huge strap to support a light front end.
